Brian D. Crisp
Brian D. Crisp is a North Carolina native with a substantial background in education and religion. He has served schools, universities, and churches across the United States, Italy, and Germany for over thirty years with a singular focus on creating equitable and just communities through a systems approach that examines individual, cultural, and structural dynamics. His approach involves an in-depth understanding of historical analysis, power arrangements, and persuasive narratives to liberate people and institutions to become agents of change in their communities. He holds degrees from Furman University, Southern Seminary, and Vanderbilt University. After his tenure as a curriculum consultant in the Municipal Schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, Brian emphasized the importance of creativity and care in systems approaches for sustainable outcomes in educational environments. In 2016, he returned to North Carolina and served at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, an inclusive congregation dedicated to promoting peace and justice. His work led to successful collaborations with agencies and institutions that assist people experiencing homelessness through public-private partnerships. In 2020, he joined the Racial Equity Institute as a facilitator and organizer, utilizing his skills and knowledge to examine the historical foundations and systems of structural racism. Brian currently resides with his partner, Charles Holden, in Harnett County, North Carolina, where they foster community through anti-racist principles and practices.
